SUMMARY OR ABSTRACT
Text of Note
"The drug industry is the source of practically all approved drugs. Yet, 'Big Pharma' is cutting entire drug R&D programs and staff, and is no longer even trying to provide many of the drugs society needs. There will be few new antibiotics, drugs for Alzheimer's disease, for pain and for many other diseases unless governments intervene to ensure the right scientific research is conducted and the necessary trials are funded. Incentives are needed for the pharma industry to change its current research and business path. This thought-provoking book is the first to: explain what it means for scientists and society; determine what to do to make sure the industry responds to society's needs and remains commercially attractive; and provide cost-effective business solutions to the dilemmas facing the drug industry, governments, and society."--Back cover.
