Historical drama about Glaucus, an Athenian noble living in Pompeii, and his love for the Greek maiden, Ione. Ione's brother Apaecides is a pupil of the Egyptian priest of Isis, Arbaces, who also loves Ione and plots Glaucus' death. When Apaecides discovers Arbaces' lust for his sister, the priest kills him, and blames the murder on Glaucus. On the day Glaucus is to be thrown to the lions, Vesuvius erupts. Glaucus and Ione are saved by his blind servant girl Nydia, who is able to find her way to the seashore even in the Stygian darkness caused by the rain of ashes, fire, and smoke. Photographed in Turin and Pompeii.
