Muṣṭafā ʿAbd al-Rāziq (c. 1885-1947) was a liberal thinker, educated in Cairo and Paris. In his various roles as journalist, minister of awqāf , and rector of al-Azhar University, he attempted national reform. As a professor he created a new approach to the history of Islamic philosophy. ʿAbd al-Rāziq was born into a wealthy and respected family in Abū Jirj/Jurj, a village in Upper Egypt.
