Objective The objective of this study was to examine the effects of Bupropion I.R on positive, negative, cognitive and depressive sings and symptoms of patients with schizophrenia and their movement disorders and tobacco abuse.Method 40 schizophrenic patients (DSM IV-TR) who were hospitalized in Razi hospital and had stable mental state and general medical condition and had no history of seizure or other serious neurlogic problems were divided in two equall groups by chance. Then one group was taken Bupropion and the other one placebo in a double blind fashion. At beginning and at the end of study (8weeks) the patients were assessed by SAPS, SANS, MMSE. AIMS and Hamilton for Depression Scales. The results were analyzed with covariance method.Results According to this study Irainian made Bupropion is completely safe. No seriouse adverse effects or increase in positive sings were seen. No changes occur in negative signs and depressive markers. Instead an obvious improvement occurs in cognitive state and decline in cigarette abuse was considerable.Conclusion According to our study Iranian made Bupropion is both safe and useful in schizophrenic patients so that can improve the function and quality of life of them by improving their cognitive signs and symptoms and decreasing tobacco abuse.Key Words Schizophrenia, Bupropion, Positive sings, NegativeSINGS, Cognition in Schizophrenia, Smoking in Schizofrenia, Depression in Schizophrenia, Movmennt disorders.
