Play therapy' is beneficial for helping these children because it is based on children's nature and their characteristics. This study focused on the effectiveness of play therapy on attention span of educable intellectual disabled girls in elementary school. This quasi-experimental study used pretest-posttest design with a control group. 31 intellectual disabled girls selected randomly by multiphasic sampling from elementary schools in Tehran and assigned equally to experimental and control groups (15 individuals in each group). They completed demographical questionnaire and Toulous-Pieron test. Experimental group divided into 5subgroups (each one includes 3 individuals) and participated into sixteen play therapy sessions (each session lasting 35 minutes) and control group received no intervention. After the last session of play therapy Toulous-Pieron test administered for experimental and control groups again. Data analyzed by analysis of covariance. Results showed that play therapy caused the significant difference (P<10111) between experimental and control groups according to attention span. In fact, Eta coefficient indicated that 0994 of changes in attention span can be explained by play therapy. In sum, we can conclude that play therapy is worthwhile method for recovery of attention deficit in children.Key words: play therapy, attention span, intellectual disability, elementary school۴ .Attention deficit is one of the most common problems in intellectual disabled children and can lead to psychological, academic, and social problems.
