Background: Kidney failure is one of the chronic and complex diseases which its treatment relies heavily on patients self management in many aspects. Typically patients experience a broad rage of symptoms. The present research attempted to investigate the effect of self management program on self management status and general health of hemodialysis patients Methods: The present semi experimental applied research was carried out on 30 of hemodialysis patients) member of Charity Foundation for Special Diseases )which were selected as available subjects and with using random blocks assigned into two groups of case and control. Data gathering tools were demographic characteristic questionnaire, self management questionnaire in chronic disease and general health questionnaire. The validity and reliability of the questionnaires were evaluated by content validity and alfachrounbach tests respectively . After the collection of pre-test data, self management program was implemented for patients in case group according to its six session. The post test was carried out months after the intervention. Findings: statistical test showed that there was no significant difference between the test and control groups in terms of demographic characteristics (P>0/05). ). Independent t-test indicated no significant difference between the two groups in terms of self management and general health before self management program intervention (P>0/05),but there was a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention in terms of self management (P<0/001)and general health(P<0/001).Also, the paired t-test showed a significant difference before and after the intervention in the test group in terms of the self management and general health (P= 0/000). Conclusions: Overwhelmingly, according to our findings in the present research, implementation of the self management program has been highly effective on the hemodialysis patients self management and general health, and we suggest this model to be applied on patients of other centers of our society in a wider range.
