The researcher aimed at comparing the success of content-related vocabulary learning and word-definition matching approaches to vocabulary teaching and to determine whether they facilitate text comprehension and vocabulary learning.The present study was designed to investigate the effect of content-related vocabulary strategy in comparison with the traditional methods on vocabulary learning of Iranian EFL learners. The participants' vocabulary learning performance in both experimental and control groups were collected and measured based on the established criteria. The impact of content-related strategy instruction on the vocabulary learning was determined through comparing the participants' performance in the vocabulary post-test. This study was conducted with 60 EFL male and female students at a private language institute in Tabriz. The Vocabulary Levels Test (Schmitt, 2000) was used to estimate the learners English vocabulary size prior to the study.After the estimation of learners vocabulary size, the main test was piloted among 10 students. Then the main test was taken .This test was consisted of 8 sections; each section was based on different categories of words. Also, the test was taken after treatment between both control group and experimental group. All participants were between the ages of 15 to 38 years old and at lower-intermediate level. They came from two language backgrounds: Turkish and Persian. These two groups were labelled as the experimental and control groups. Data were collected during summer 2013. To measure and compare the participants' performance in both groups of the study on vocabulary test, the collected data were submitted to data analysis. The statistical analysis, which was run by using SPSS software, version 16.0, involved an independent sample t-test. An independent samples t-test was conducted in order to measure and compare the participants mastery of vocabulary items through content-related and traditional methods in both groups of the study. The findings of the study revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups of the study; that is to say that the learners' vocabulary learning is affected and hence improved through content-related vocabulary strategy instruction. In other words, the findings indicated that this strategy engages learners in more cognitive activity, deeper processing, and higher retention in vocabulary learning.
هدف از این تحقیق بررسی تاثیر یادگیری لغت با روش محتوی محور بر یادگیری لغت می باشد .مطالعه حاضر به منظور بررسی اثر یادگیری لغت با روش محتوی محور در مقایسه با روش های سنتی بر یادگیری واژگان زبان آموزان ایرانی طراحی شده است .عملکرد واژگان شرکت کنندگان در هر دو گروه تجربی و کنترل جمع آوری و بر اساس معیارهای اندازه گیری شده است .مطالعه حاضر با حضور 60زبان آموزا زن و مرد در یک موسسه زبان خصوصی در تبریز انجام شد .آنها بین سنین 15 تا 38 سال و در سطح متوسط بودند .در این تحقیق محقق سعی داشته ارتباط مستقیم تاثیر یادگیری لغت با روش محتوی با یادگیری لغت در سطح متوسط نشان دهد . این تحقیق نتایج متعددی در اختیار زبان آموزان و مدرسان قرار می دهد .به این منظور با استفاده از یک آزمون معتبر به نام) سایز لغت (و داده های لازم جمع آوری شده و توسط تی تست و واریانس مورد تحلیل آماری قرار گرفت .نتایج تحقیق تاثیر مثبت و چشمگیری نشان داد و این باعث ایجاد انگیزه در زبان آموزان و مدرسان برای به کار گیری استراتژی فوق الذکر می شود
