An investigation of method effects on reading comprehension test performance

The purpose of the present thesis was to investigate method effects or test types on reading comprehension test performance among intermediate and advanced Iranian EFL learners. A quantitative design was adopted to conduct the study. To this end and based the scores of the participants on the placement tests designed by the institutes from which we collected the data, we selected 40 intermediate and 40 advanced participants and divided each proficiency level into two groups. Then, we gave one group in each proficiency level a reading comprehension test in the multiple-choice format and the other group the same reading comprehension test in the multiple-choice cloze test. Our analyses showed that the participants in both proficiency levels who took the reading comprehension in the multiple-choice format performed significantly better that those participants in both proficiency level who took the reading test in the multiple-choice cloze test. We discussed the pedagogical implications of the results.
هدف مطالعه حاضر بررسی تاثیر روش و نوع امتحان بر روی قدرت درک مطلب زبان آموزان ایرانی سطوح متوسطه و پیشرفته می باشد .برای اجرای این مطالعه طرح کمی بکارگرفته شد .ابتدا جمعیت مطالعه را با استفاده از نمرات آزمون سطح بندی خود موسسه ای که در آن داده ها جمع شد به دو گروه چهل تایی متوسط و پیشرفته تقسیم کردیم .سپس هر دو گروه را به دو دسته بیست نفری تقسیم کردیم .بعد به گروه اول ازهردو سطح متوسط و پیشرفته یک آزمون چهار گزینه ای درک مطلب و به گروه دیگر در هر دو سطح آزمون چهارگزینه ای بندش درک مطلب دادیم .نتایج تحلیل ها نشان داد که آنهایی که فقط آزمون چهار گزینه ای درک مطلب دادند درهردو گروه نسبت به آنهایی که آزمون چهار گزینه ای بندش دادند به بطور معناداری عملکرد بهتری داشتند که این خود نشان دهنده تاثیر نوع آزمون بر عملکرد فراگیران دارد .کاربردهای آموزشی این تحقیق بحث می شود
