Let M be a subgroup of a fnite group G, and suppose that M normalizes thenilpotent residual H1 of every non-subnormal subgroup H of G. We show thatM must also normalize the nilpotent residuals of the subnormal subgroup of G.We also prove a similar result for the solvable residual. In the second part, wesuppose that G is a fnite group and let H be a proper subgroup of G. Then therestriction map from the characters of G to the characters of H is never injective.
