.electric installations and etc. Some of the factors that can produce this phenomenon are: unexpected turning off pump, momentarily opening and closing of valve, and other kind of factors that cause to change the value and direction of velocity in pipe lines which leads to destructive effects on the tubes, liquid pipe lines, pumps and other machineries.Because of the importance of this phenomenon in pipe line network, in the present work water hammer is studied by using the physical and numerical models in two different states: with and without surge tank. Data collected for different discharges in arbitrary time ranges were compared with results of numerical CFD model. Since the Fluent software is used to simulate fluid movement and reaction between water and structure, therefore the phenomenon i.e. unexpected stopping of water valve after determining the best network and turbulence model was simulated
