The aim of this study was to assess effects of different stem lengths on vase life, some qualitative characteristics and water relations of cut rose flower cv Bingo white. This was performed in Postharvest Biology Laboratory , University of Tabriz based on a factorial experiment with completely randomized design with four stem lengths (25, 35, 45 and 55 cm) and two levels of sucrose (0 and level of 2 ) with three replication for each treatment examination. Cut flowers were maintained in 232 C temperature, 60 5 relative humidity and a light intensity of 12 mol /m2.s (cool white fluorescent lamps) with 12 hours of light until the end of vase life. In this experiment, several parameters such as vase life, flower diameter, relative fresh weight, solution uptake, leaves and petals ion leakage, leaves and petals membrane stability index, leaves and petals water relative content, leaves and flower water potential, stomata conductance, total amount of soluble solids were evaluated. The results of mean comparison showed that the treatment stem length of 25 cm and solution containing sucrose 2 plus sodium hypochlorite 50 (ppm) had the best results on vase life of cut rose cv Bingo White. In the case of flower diameter, cut stems of 25 cm lengths had the most flower diameter. In the case of relative fresh weight, stems, stem length of 55 cm with sucrose 2 showed significant differences compared by other treatments. The most amount of solution uptake was observed at 35 cm stem length, and in longer stems, presence of sucrose had favorable effects on solution uptake rate. Relative water content of leaves and petals was observed at least amount in 55 cm stem length. Among other lengths no difference was observed. An increase in stem length treatment increased leaves and petals ion leakage and reduced their membrane stability; but shorter lengths decreased ion leakage. Stomatal conductance decreased over time and was not affected by treatments. The lowest water potential was observed in 55 cm stem length, and there was no significant difference between all lengths. Sucrose treatment in vase solution improved water status in the plant. The highest percentage of total soluble solids was observed in the stem and petals of 55 cm stem length and There was no significant difference between all levels of stem treatment. Overall, the results showed that shorter treatment (25 cm stem length) and solution containing sucrose with sodium hypochlorite had the greatest impact on vase life, and prevented decreasing relative fresh weight, solution uptake, leaves and petal relative water content, stomata conductance, leaves and flower water potential, membrane stability index and amount of total soluble solids, but reduced the ion leakage of cut flowers in the cv White Bingo
