The types of degradation process are different depending on the environmental conditions in which a polymer is placed, any factor that changes the molecular weight of polymers can greatly change its properties. Molecular weight, high dispersion, nature of chemical bonds, degree of acetylation, purity level and moisture level play an important role in determining the mechanism and speed of polymer degradation. In this project, a film was prepared from polyethylene terephthalate and a mixture of this polymer with nanoparticles with weight-volume percentages of 0.0016, 0.0032, 0.0024 and 0.004 and using analyzes such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), conversion spectroscopy Fourier transform (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were investigated. Also, the effect of pH on the percentage of water absorption and the initial concentration of the material and the amount of nanostructures on the degradation rate and stability of the studied polymer were investigated. In this research work, the photodegradation of polyethylene terephthalate with a fixed concentration of 2.5 g/liter in a period of 30, 15 and 45 minutes and also in different concentrations of 0.4, 0.6, 1.5, 2, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5.5 and 6 grams per liter for 10 minutes. The amount of degradation was checked with the help of viscometry and the molecular mass was calculated before and after degradation.Next, the amount of optical degradation and thermal degradation was investigated using thermal calorimetry analysis (TGA) in the presence of gamma zeolite nanoparticles and clay. The obtained results showed degradation, but according to researches and articles, nanoparticles cause polymer stability more than its degradation. In this study, we observed the SEM images of the pure polymer film and the polymer film in the presence of nanoparticles, which shows that the nanoparticles are spread in the polymer substrate. Also, the effect of x-ray diffraction was studied on the mentioned samples, and based on the obtained results, it is inferred that after irradiation of this polymer, the structure of the polymer was significantly destroyed, and in the presence of nanoparticles, after irradiation, it is clear that the intensity of the peaks again decreased, but this degradation was less than the degradation of pure PET sample. Also, based on the observed results for optical and thermal degradation of polyethylene terephthalate in the presence of nanoparticles, it can be concluded that the stability of clay nanoparticles is higher than gamma zeolite nanoparticles.
