This thesis examines the rule of Queen Boran (629-631 CE), one of the last Sasanian rulers, as that of one of only teo women ruling in their own right in Iranian history. A comparative study is presented between the social and political circumstances leading to Boran's rule and the conditions in the Sasanians' neighboring societies that led to the rise of women to political prominence between 600 and 900 CE.
