This qualifying paper addresses the historical context, treatment decisions, and conservation of a large Pre-Columbian Peruvian Nazca woven textile (200-400 CE). The textile is in poor/fair condition with brittle shedding fibers, visible pest damage, and some incompatible appendages and lining added to it. It is approximately 5 ft x 4 ft in size. It is owned by a private dealer in Philadelphia who purchased it with no known provenance. His desire was to inexpensively conserve the textile for resale. The primary goal of this paper is to develop a conservation treatment that considers the best method for the stabilization and protection of the textile while attempting to satisfy the client's need for a sale-ready textile.
