Background: Family Members (FM) of individuals with advanced cancer have been found to be active participants in the care of patients. Palliative Care (PC) consults are often requested during a hospitalization to help facilitate goals of care discussion/decision-making and aid in symptom management of individuals with cancer. FM are often present during inpatient PC consultations, yet little is known of their contributions during consultations and how they may differ across the patient's performance status (PS).
