This study portraits the motivational situation of post graduate foreign students' motivation towards learning Turkish as a foreign language. Emphases were given on student's motivation and major difficulties faced by the students throughout their learning. Different motivational theories were availed to keep the study manageable. In this regard the study specifically addressed, Socio-educational model (Gardner, Tremblay & Masgoret, 1977, Gardner & Tremblay, 1995) with particular focus on instrumental and integrative motivation. While the majority of foreign language motivation studies were conducted quantitatively, this study deployed mixed-method approach. Questionnaire with items graded in 5-point Likert scale and semi-structured interview were administered to elicit data from 60 purposively selected post graduate foreign students learning Turkish at Marmara University in 2018-2019 academic year. To have detailed information and avoid uncontrollable dispersion in the study only those foreign students pursuing their Master and PHD were selectively included as the primary research participants. Based on theoretical insight and the empirical result gained from the collected data the study finding explicitly disclosed that students are both instrumentally and integratively motivated, but their instrumental motivation is slightly higher than integrative motivation. The finding also highlights that traditional language learning skills particularly listening, speaking and writing skills are the major difficulties being encountered by these students. ,
