On 11 December 2010 Professor Anton Houtepen passed away after a long fight with cancer. Between 1988 and 2004 he was Director of IIMO, the Interuniversity Institute for Missiological and Ecumenical Studies in the Netherlands. This article presents a biography of this learned and inspiring pioneer of the ecumenical movement. Besides the internal discussion within the Christian communities, special attention is given to his dialogue with the ongoing progress of secularisation.
