The Banū Zuhr were a prominent family of physicians in sixth/twelfth-century al-Andalus. The dynasty began with Abū Marwān ʿAbd al-Malik b. Muḥammad b. Marwān b. Zuhr al-Iyādī (d. 470/1077-8), but the members who brought great professional prestige to this family and wrote important medical treatises were his son Abū l-ʿAlāʾ Zuhr and his grandson Abū Marwān ʿAbd al-Malik b. Zuhr, known in the West as Avenzoar. 1. Abū l-ʿAlāʾ Zuhr b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Muḥammad b. Marwān b. Zuhr
