Adīb Maẓhar al-Maʿlūf (1898-1928) was a Lebanese poet. He is considered a pioneer of the symbolist movement in Arabic literature. Born in the village of Muḥayditha, he received an early education in Arabic and French, which provided him with a solid foundation in the literary traditions of these languages. He was particularly influenced by Charles Baudelaire (d. 1867) and Albert Samain (d. 1900). He enrolled at the American University of Beirut's dental school, where he developed his fluency in the English language and was exposed to the
