The Magal of Porokhane is an annual religous commemorative celebration ( magal in Wolof) that is dedicated to Mame Diarra Bousso (d. c.1860), the mother of Shaykh Amadou Bamba (d. 1927), the founder of the Senegalese Muridiyya (Murīdiyya) Ṣūfī order. The saint Mame Diarra is said to have been buried in Porokhane, a town in Senegal, near the Gambian border. After the death of Amadou Bamba, shrines in both Porokhane and Touba became popular as sites for Muridiyya pilgrimages. Porokhane became famous for Mame (an honorific title for a deceased
