Küçük Kaynarca (Kūçuk Qāinārca) is the Turkish name (meaning "small hot spring") of a village in modern-day Bulgaria, (now known as Kaynardzha), south of the Danube, near the city of Silistra/Silistre. The village is most famous as the site of a 12 Cemaziyülevvel (Jumādā I) 1188/21 July 1774 agreement between the Russian and Ottoman Empires. This treaty ended the Russo-Ottoman War of 1182-8/1768-74. The Ottoman Empire, seeking to check growing Russian influence in Poland and the steppes, had suffered disastrous losses. The treaty
