Ghassān Kanafānī (1936-72) was a Palestinian editor, journalist, writer, and activist. With his short stories, novels, and plays he is considered one of the most eminent Palestinian writers of the twentieth century (Pannewick, 613). At the same time, he was a leading member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) and the co-founder and editor of its magazine al-Hadaf ("The target").
