Israel of Kashkar (Isrāʾīl al-Kaskarī, d. 258/872) was a Christian scholar and polemicist in early ʿAbbāsid Iraq. He belonged to the Church of the East (also known as the Nestorian Church) and was catholicos for a short period of time in Kashkar (located between Kūfa and Basra). Supporters of a rival candidate for the position treated him violently, leading to his death soon after.
