Bullhe Shāh (d. 1171/1758) has long been regarded as the greatest master of the Ṣūfī lyric in Panjābī. Biographical details are sparse, however, and for the most part uncertainly established (Faqīr, i-xii). His father, Sakhī Shāh Muḥammad Darwesh, from a sayyid family long established in Uch Gīlāniyāṇ in Bahāwalpūr District, migrated eastward to settle in the village of Pāṇd'oke, near the town of Qaṣūr in Lahore District.
