Booty is the property of non-Muslim enemies of the Muslim state, appropriated by Muslims during or after warfare. The goods taken by force during and after a battle are called ghanīma ; those acquired without the use of force, as by the evacuation of the enemy from their land or by virtue of the terms of a peace treaty, are termed fayʾ.
