Muḥammad Ṣāliḥ al-Jābirī (1940-2009), one of Tunisia's most prominent writers and critics in the post-independence era, was born in Tozeur, Tunisia, where he received his early education. As a teenager, he moved to Tunis, where he obtained his high school diploma before leaving for Iraq to pursue higher studies.
