Zakī al-Arsūzī (1902?-68) was a founding member of the Syrian political party al-Baʿth al-ʿArabī and an important ideologue, particularly under ʿAlawī rule in Syria. He was born into an ʿAlawī family in the sancaq of Alexandretta (Iskenderun), in northwest Syria. He attended the rüşdiye (secondary school) in Antakya (Antioch), continued his studies at the Institut Laïc in Beirut, and studied philosophy at the Sorbonne (1927-30).
