Farīd al-Aṭrash (d. 1974) was a mas-ter performer of the ʿūd , singer, composer, and film star. He produced more than 300 songs and starred in 31 films from the early 1930s until his death. He combined elements of Egyptian and Levantine styles, weaving popular musical themes into his compositions. Sources disagree on the year of his birth, possibly 1915 (on the ʿid al-aḍḥā , in October) but possibly as early as 1912. His paternal relatives were the noble Druze Ṭurshān clan of the Jabal Druze in Syria. In
