Abū Bakr b. Maḥmūd b. Aḥmad, known as Abubakar Gumi (1922-92), was a reformist Nigerian scholar, Grand Khadi (for Ar. qāḍī ) of Northern Nigeria (1962-7), and patron of the Izala organisation ( Jamāʿat ʿizālat al-bidʿa wa-iqāmat al-sunna , Society for the Removal of Innovation and the Instatement of Tradition). Born on 7 November 1922 in Gummi (Sokoto Province), he was the son of the town's qāḍī. After receiving basic traditional and modern education, he trained in the 1940s as a qāḍī at the Kano Law School.
