Naṣr Ḥāmid Abū Zayd (1943-2010) was an Egyptian specialist in Qurʾānic hermeneutics who was accused of apostasy, fled Egypt, and spent the rest of career in Europe. He was born of humble origins in Quḥāfa, a village in the delta, and was at first trained in the radio department of the Egyptian ministry of transport.
