Abū Ḥayyān Athīr al-Dīn Muḥammad b. Yūsuf al-Gharnāṭī (654-745/1256-1344) was a distinguished Arab grammarian. He was born in Granada but later moved to Cairo, where he served as professor of Qurʾānic disciplines in various institutions while teaching grammar and other subjects. Abū Ḥayyān is credited with over fifty works on Arabic and other languages (notably Turkish, Ethiopic, and Persian), Qurʾānic studies, ḥadīth , jurisprudence, history, biography, and poetry. At least a dozen of his works have been edited and published, including Manhaj al-sālik , a commentary
