Grammar of any language is an essential tool in which communication; idea, feelings and thoughts, can be properly expressed and adequately comprehended. Arabic grammar has been fully codified and analyzed. Scholars sometimes differ on some issues which later transformed into scholastic argument among different schools of thoughts. This later became problem among Nigeria Arabic writers which, unfortunately, sometimes leads to social imbroglio and ideological war. Therefore, this thesis titled "a Critical Study of Controversial Grammatical issues in the selected Books of Nigerian Authors" uses descriptive analytical methodology to identify grammatical areas where Nigerian Arabic authors sharply differ and express their support on some grammatical issues in writing. This becomes imperative in order to show-case the contributions of Nigerian scholars to Arabic discourse in general and Arabic grammar in particular. In order to achieve all these, this thesis is segmented into six chapters. The first chapter which consists of an introduction to the work that contains the concept of the work, its aims and objectives, its significance, methodology and literature review among others. The second chapter discuses the development of Arabic grammar from its inception through the contributions of major Arabic grammarians and their school of thoughts. Chapter three analyses the development of Arabic grammar in Nigeria, issues like factors that led to its emergence, early scholars and their works are raised and studied. Chapter four itemizes some major grammatical issues often call for attention of Nigerian Arabic writers in the area of grammar (Morphology and Syntax). Such issues include: derivation, nominal and verbal sentences, concord, dual and uses of pronoun. Furthermore, chapter five concerned with assessment and evaluation of Arabic writings by Arab and Nigerian scholars,with the intent of identifying areas of competence and grammatical differences. The scholars studied for comparison are: Mohammed Al-Amin Al-Kanamy, Taah Hussain and Sulaiman Solih Al-Haqiqy, this is to unable us discover the effect of grammatical mastery on the writings of Nigerian Arabic scholars. Lastly, Chapter Six concludes the work, it contains summary, findings and contributions to the knowledge and recommendations, among the findings include, Nigeria writers are not inferior to the Arabs, especially in areas of grammar both in theory and practice, and that modernism theory in Arabic grammar has impacted on the Arabic writings of Nigerian scholars, hence the emergence of controversial issues. Therefore, the research recommends that controversial grammatical issue is a linguistic phenomenon which should not lead to social and ideological war, as it has been observed in some cases in this research.
