This research focuses on the development of novel materials for natural gas sweetening. Copper based MOF HKUST-1 was chosen based on its affinity towards acid gas and was functionalized with polyethyleneimine, ethylene diamine and 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane in separate experiments. These samples were characterized using XRD, FTIR, SEM & BET and PEI-HKUST-1 was studied for H2S adsorption which showed breakthrough adsorption capacity of 0.21 mmol H2S/g sorbent. The composites of HKUST-1 with PEI functionalized GO (HKUST-1/(PEI-GO)) showed H2S adsorption of 0.45 mmol H 2S/g sorbent higher than PEI-HKUST-1 at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. The three different amine functionalized GO samples were tested for CO2 adsorption at 30 °C with APTES-GO showing maximum adsorption capacity of 2 mmol/g at 30 °C and pressure of 1 bar. The APTES-GO degassed at 70°C and with preadsorbed water showed better CO2 adsorption than the non-humidified samples.
