This volume contains the proceedings of the Fifth European Conference on the Spectroscopy of Biological Molecules. It provides a critically comparative review of the research progress in the field of molecular structure, chemical bonding, and dynamics of biological molecules such as nucleic acids, proteins, membranes, enzymes and drugs. The spectroscopic methods employed to study the above systems are mainly infrared and Raman, including NMR, CD, absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies. Molecular graphics simulations and other theoretical methods are also included. Presenting current research on the spectroscopy of biological molecules, this landmark volume, dedicated to E.D. Schmid, a pioneer and leading research worker in this area of study, considers molecular structure and evolution from this broad perspective.
