The rapid development of the sulfur-nitrogen chemistry during the last decades has yielded new compounds in such an amount that the edition of volumes dedicated to sulfur-nitrogen compounds is justified. In the meantime four volumes have been published of which Volume 1 is dedicated to compounds with sulfur of oxidation number VI; the other three volumes are devoted to the description of cyclic sulfur-nitrogen compounds with sulfur of oxidation number IV. The present volume starts with the description of acyclic sulfur-nitrogen compounds with sulfur of oxidation number IV. The sulfur nitride (thiazyl) radical, SN, the ions, SN+ and SN-, and the thionitrosyl complexes containing the SN ligand are considered. Poly (sulfur ni- tride), (SN)x, sulfur nitride (thiazyl) compounds, e.g. FSN, ClSN, BrSN, and cis-HOSN, and metal complexes of sulfur nitride (thiazyl) compounds cover a large part of the volume.
