Background: to study the AIP (Atherogenic Index of Plasma) marker in type 2 diabetic patients based on their BMI (Body Mass Index)Introduction Early assessment and control of cardiovascular risk factors in diabetic patients has a positive effect on reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and death in patients. AIP is a good predictor of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease risk. Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted at the Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex in Tehran, Iran. All type 2 diabetic patients who referred to the diabetes clinic of Imam Khomeini Hospital in a period of 10 years from the beginning of 1389 to the end of 1399 entered the study. This study was examined and approved In Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex, Tehran University of Medical Sciences with the ethics ID IR.TUMS.IKHC.REC.1399.426. Patients were divided based on BMI, and their plasma atherogenic index were calculated. All data was analyzed by SPSS 25 software. Results: 2662 patients was entered the study. All patients were divided in three groups based on BMI. (18-25, 25-30, >30). AIP in 25-30 BMI group was significantly higher than normal group. And in >30 BMI group was significantly higher than normal group. Conclusion: Considering the high prevalence of obesity in the community and especially in diabetic patients and the high prevalence of atherosclerosis in these patients and the higher mortality and morbidity of these patients, it seems that by finding subclinical cases and treating them, the risk of complications can be reduced.
