This descriptive case study of mixed design examined the Semester at Sea program in the context of both globalization in the 21 st Century and best practices within the field of study abroad, using 3 guiding research questions. In essence, this study was intended to ascertain how the attitudes and opinions of past participants of Semester at Sea reflect the presence of those practices that contribute most to studying abroad in an increasingly more interdependent world. In addition to a written survey consisting of 30 questions in 2 parts, this study also included a supplementary phone interview. Overall, the vast majority of participants report that they did experience significant personal growth and increased global awareness through their Semester at Sea experience.
